f.baldini@ic.ac.uk working on three related projects: a) Functional analysis of male accessory gland proteins (Acps) that are transferred to the female during copulation. These Acps might be important regulators of sperm viability and post-mating behaviour as it has been demonstrated in Drosophila. b) Studying the regulation of Acps secretion in the male accessory glands during swarming and copulation; c) Analysis of the role of male and female enzymes such as proteases in the processing of the mating plug, and their cooperation in the synthesis of hormone-like peptides.
